  11.      The Internet is the printing press of the 21st century!
  12.  
  13.      New horizons exist to reach out and share with people in ways
  14.      that we couldn't even have imagined a couple of years ago.
  15.  
  16.      And now the American government has decided that this wonderful
  17.      new invention should only be used to produce G-rated material.
  18.  
  19.      Would we accept the idea of the printing press only being used
  20.      for such purposes?

  22.      NO WAY!
  23.  
  24.      So we shouldn't accept it for the Internet either.

  26.      I have two boys: 8 years old and 6 years old. I am a concerned
  27.      parent. I love them dearly and want all the right things for them
  28.      to be able to grow up and become responsible adults who lead
  29.      fulfilling lives. And there certainly are subjects on the net
  30.      that they shouldn't see right now: Sex? Racism? Religious sects?
  31.      Terrorist propaganda? And much more I'm sure.

  33.      But it isn't the government's job to decide what kids read or
  34.      see! That's the parent's responsibility rather than Big
  35.      Brother's!

  37.      There can never be one moral standard, not even for me and my
  38.      best friends, much less for everyone on earth. In this case one
  39.      size definitely doesn't fit all!

  41.      I left the US for France at the age of 16; and since then I've
  42.      never felt involved enough with American politics to bother
  43.      voting. But now that time has come to an end. I will be listening
  44.      very attentively to what the presidential candidates have to say
  45.      concerning Freedom of Speech.

  47.      I hope, for humankind's sake, that those of us who are willing to
  48.      stand up and defend our rights will make a difference in what our
  49.      future looks like.

  64.      invention doit servir uniquement α la diffusion d'informations
  65.      "grand-public". Accepterions nous une telle proposition en ce qui
  66.      concerne l'utilisation de l'imprimerie?

  70.      Alors on ne devrait pas l'accepter pour l'Internet.

  72.      J'ai deux garτons agΘs de 8 ans et de 6 ans. Je suis un parent
  73.      attentif. J'aime mes enfants et je souhaite qu'ils aient tout ce
  74.      qu'il faut pour qu'ils puissent vivre pleinement et deviennent
  75.      des adultes responsables. Il existe certainement des sujets
  76.      qu'ils ne doivent pas encore voir: Le sexe? Le racisme? Les
  77.      sectes? La propagande terroriste? Et bien d'autres choses j'en
  78.      suis s√r.

  80.      Mais ce n'est pas le r⌠le du gouvernement de dΘcider ce que les
  81.      enfants voient ou lisent! C'est la responsabilitΘ des parents,
  82.      plut⌠t que celle de "big brother"!

  84.      Il ne pourra jamais y avoir un standard moral unique, mΩme pas
  85.      entre moi et mes meilleurs amis, et encore moins pour la terre
  86.      entiΦre. Dans ce cas la taille unique n'existe pas!

  88.      J'ai quittΘ les Etats-Unis, pour la France, α l'Γge de 16 ans; et
  89.      depuis je ne me suis jamais senti assez concernΘ par la politique
  90.      amΘricaine pour prendre la peine de voter.

  92.      Maintenant cette Θpoque est rΘvolue. J'Θcouterai trΦs
  93.      attentivement ce que diront les candidats α l'Θlection
  94.      prΘsidentielle sur la libertΘ d'expression. J'espΦre pour le bien
  95.      de l'humanitΘ, que ceux d'entre nous qui ont pris la peine de
  96.      dΘfendre nos droits pourront avoir un impact sur l'avenir.
